Beginner Driving Lessons

Never driven before? Taj starts from the very beginning and builds your skills one step at a time, at a pace that suits you.

What you’ll learn

  • The cockpit drill: doors, seat, steering, seat belt and mirrors
  • Using the controls smoothly, moving off and stopping safely
  • Mirrors, signals and blind-spot checks before every action
  • Junctions, crossroads and roundabouts, starting with quiet roads
  • Manoeuvres: parallel parking, bay parking and pulling up on the right
  • Reading the road ahead and dealing with other road users

How your lessons are structured

Your first lesson is about getting comfortable and finding out where you are. After that, each lesson follows a full syllabus, with regular updates on your progress. You move on as soon as you’ve grasped a skill, never before.

When you’re consistently driving at test standard, you’ll take a mock test on local routes. Only then do you agree a test date together, because repeat attempts cost more and knock your confidence.

Beginner questions

What do I need before my first lesson?

A valid UK provisional driving licence. Bring it to every lesson. You don’t need to have passed your theory test to start.

How many lessons will I need?

It varies from person to person. After your first lesson Taj will give you an honest idea based on how you drive, and keep you updated as you progress.

Can I learn in an automatic?

Yes. Taj teaches in both a manual and an automatic car.
